How do I start my own fashion line and get in the biz?

3
I am 13 years old, and one of my lifetime accomplishments would be to successfully begin my own fashion line. I am very fashion savvy and 150% dedicated to my dreams and goals. I already have notebooks upon notebooks filled with designs. I’m just having a little trouble finding a way to promote my fashion.

Marketing Strategies

Start a blog instead of writing down notes for personal reference. You obviously wouldn’t want to post your designs, but you can post inspiration.
Network with other bloggers. Look at what recently happened to Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. A blog could get your foot in the door.

Extensive research is key. At Avant Gaudy, research can fill half of a workday, but it enables us to form better relationships with our customers and within the fashion community.

Most importantly, follow a business idea that you are passionate about.

I’m the executive director of Fashion Citizen which is a free fashion tabloid. I’m glad to hear you have an interest in Fashion Design. Its not an easy field to be a success and their are a few paths to take.

The first thing to do is to learn the trade. Make sure you are familiar with all aspects of Fashion Design. Visit the local library and get books on sewing and seamstress. Also, look at runway shows and observe the lines used by major designers.

Look into maybe attending the Fashion Institute of Design. At your age, you can start working towards getting a scholarship. Finally, to really make it, you have to understand the business side including networking with fashion buyers, understanding manufacturing and advertising campaigns. And you must build a name for yourself.

I know it sounds like a lot, but if you are committed, you can make it. Checkout our website and you can see a lot of videos of accomplished fashion designers.
